The St Catherine North Police have launched a manhunt for five men who cut their way out of the newly-refurbished lock-up at the Spanish Town Police Station this morning.

Four of the escapees have been identified as Durvan Coleman, who has been charged with murder, Jevon Bashford and Andre Adson, who are both charged with illegal possession of firearm and Akram Hall, who is charged with robbery with aggravation.

The other man has not yet been identified.

Senior Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth, who heads the St Catherine North Police Division, confirmed that the men used an implement to cut away a section of the area where they were being held.

The Gleaner/Power106 News Centre understands that there were close to 200 detainees in the lock-up that was built to house about 60 persons.

Nesbeth is appealing to members of the public who have information on the men’s whereabouts to come forward and assist the police.

Earlier this month six men escaped from the Free Port Police Station in Montego Bay, St James.
