Mothers in #deadbabiesscandal to lead protest on UHWI and health ministry

Five mothers whose children died from the bacterial outbreak say they will be demonstrating today outside the gates of the University Hospital of the West Indies and the Health Ministry in Kingston.

The first protest is scheduled for 10:30 at the UHWI.

The other protest will take place at midday at the Health Ministry's head office on Grenada Way in New Kingston.

The protest, which will also have a social media component, is being dubbed #Lovethe19, a reference to the 19 babies that died at the UHWI and Cornwall Regional Hospital in St James.

A media release says the protest is being organised by mothers and family of the babies.

According to the release, the hospitals need to formally accept blame for the deaths of the infants and put in structures to ensure the situation does not happen again.

The mothers are also upset that the hospitals and the health ministry have not meaningfully responded to their letters seeking compensation.
