Mandeville-based attorney charged with fraud in failed property transaction
Mandeville-based attorney Howard Lettman has been arrested and charged with fraud.
Lettman who is now on bail in the sum of $500,000 was arrested in connection with a failed $11.6 million transaction to buy a property.
The police say the money, paid to Lettman by a female client, covered the cost for his legal services, stamp duties and other fees and taxes.
However, Lettman, 56, reportedly paid over a portion of the money to the vendor but failed to pay the necessary fees.
As a result, the property was not transferred to the purchaser.
A report was made to the police who last Monday arrested Lettman and charged him with fraudulent conversion.
He is scheduled to appear before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, January 15, 2016.
