Governor General Sir Patrick Allen has stated in his Christmas message that while these are perplexing times, the challenges are coupled with tremendous opportunities for progress.

He notes that globally and locally, 2015 has seen a series of crises which have caused much angst and apprehension for all.

But he says despite these things the year has rolled around rapidly and it is again Christmas.

He says this season highlights the duty of care that all citizens have towards the Jamaican family.

Sir Patrick says Jamaicans must lay down the weapons of warfare and be at peace with each other.

He says this will lead to a decline in the murder rate and number of road accidents.
