A St James teenager has been charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition after he was caught with an illegal gun on Boxing Day.

The 17-year-old boy was arrested during a police patrol yesterday in Grange Pen, Lilliput, St James. His identity was not disclosed.

The police say when the teen saw them he threw an object from his hand into nearby bushes. The lawmen searched the area where the object was thrown and a Colt .45 pistol was found with eight .45 rounds.

It was the third firearm seized by the Barrett police in St James over a 36-hour period. They also seized 25 rounds of ammunition during the period.
