Former Anglican bishop gets official funeral
The Government has announced it will accord an official funeral to the late former Bishop of the Diocese of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, the Right Reverend Dr. Neville Wordsworth deSouza.
Bishop deSouza died on December 12 after a long period of illness.
The funeral will take place at the St. Andrew Parish Church, on Hagley Park Road tomorrow, starting at 11 a.m.
The service will be preceded by musical tributes starting at 10 a.m.
Interment follows at the church cemetery.
Bishop deSouza is the fourth Jamaican to lead the local church.
He was ordained a Deacon in 1958 and became a priest in 1959.
He was consecrated Suffragan Bishop of Montego Bay in 1973 and was enthroned as Diocesan Bishop in 1979.
He guided the ministry of the church for 21 years until his retirement in 2000.
