Head of the Police Traffic Division Senior Superintendent Calvin Allen has revealed that the driver of the vehicle that triggered a collision on Mandela Highway in St Catherine this morning was ticketed for speeding minutes before the crash.

Up to late this afternoon Allen says several persons who sustained injuries in the crash were still getting treatment at hospital.

None of the injuries are considered serious.

According to police reports, the driver in question was travelling east along Mandela Highway when his vehicle encountered an oil spill in the vicinity of Highway 2000.

It’s reported that the vehicle skidded across the median and into the westbound lane where it collided with a sports utility vehicle.

Allen says there is no indication whether speeding was a factor.
