Police Commissioner Dr Carl Williams says this is the largest number of murder arrest in the country's history.

Police Commissioner Dr Carl Williams this morning revealed that over 700 persons were arrested for murder last year.

According to Williams, this is the largest number of murder arrest in the country's history.

A total of 1,207 persons were reported killed in Jamaica last year, a 20 per cent increase when compared to the 1,007 murders recorded for 2014.

Williams says the 700 murder arrests represent a 54 per cent clear up rate for the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

He says this is the highest clear up rate recorded by the police in 23 years.

The commissioner is now meeting with senior journalists at his St Andrew offices.
