Government to upgrade Marcus Garvey Drive to help ease traffic delays

The Government has announced plans to expand a section of Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston from four to six lanes to help to ease traffic delays there.

The expansion which is under the Major Infrastructure Development Programme is to be made between East Avenue and Water Lane.

The Government further says improvements are to be made at the end of Water Lane between Pechon Street and West Street.

The upgrading works will be undertaken after the compulsory acquisition of 13 parcels of land and four structures along Marcus Garvey Drive.

The Cabinet has given approval for the National Land Agency to undertake the acquisitions.

The government has announced that it will be spending $353 million on infrastructure projects across the island under the Major Infrastructure Development Programme.
