It’s all smiles as Shanice Hinds (left), second-year chemistry major at the University of the West Indies (UWI), receives her symbolic cheque for $330,000 from Jeanine Ewart (right), daughter of Alexander ‘Barclay’ Ewart. Shanice is the first recipient of the Alexander ‘Barclay’ Ewart Scholarship for Chemistry, which is open to chemistry major students from St Catherine studying at the UWI. The scholarship tenure is two years at the same sum each year. Looking on from left are Dr Roy Porter – head of the university’s Chemistry Department; Lynden Nugent – managing director, Industrial Chemical Company; and Emma Bunting – Barclay Ewart’s granddaughter.
