Six people have been appointed to a body to give oversight to the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR).

They include businessman, Joseph Matalon, who will chair the group and his deputy, engineer, Noel daCosta.

The other members include economist and university lecturer, Dr Damien King, attorney-at-law Novar Patrick McDonald and management executive Clement Lawrence.

Chairperson of the Consumer Advisory Committee on Utilities Yasmin Chong will also serve on the board.

The members will serve for five years.

Governor General Sir Patrick Allen made the appointment in line with changes approved by Parliament for the OUR Act last year.

The OUR had suggested that the creation of the oversight board could signall that the OUR should serve the interests of groups and sectors rather than economic and other national interests.

It also argued that the the changes could affect the agency's independence.
