Over $108m cash forfeited to government under POCA
Just over $108 million in cash was forfeited to the government through the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) during the 2013-2014 financial year.
That’s according to data from the Financial Investigations Division (FID), which shows that cash forfeited to the government under POCA has increased significantly over previous years.
In the last two financial years the FID says a total of just over $40 million was forfeited to the government.
It says cash seizures for the current financial year are expected to surpass last year.
This following a court ruling last month which allowed the government to hold onto US$1.3 million or approximately J$140 million that was seized from a St Catherine woman.
