Peter Phillips is 2015 Gleaner Man of the Year
Finance Minister Dr Peter Phillips is the 2015 Gleaner Man of the Year.
The announcement was made a short while ago during a gala luncheon at The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston, culminating what Gleaner managing director Christopher Barnes called an afternoon of greatness.
Phillips had earlier received the 2015 award for Public Service.
"Today's function gives me a great feeling for what can be the vast potential for Jamaica," he said, citing the work of the other award winners.
Jamaica's finance minister since 2011, Phillips said that his work in the public service over the past decades has been challenging yet satisfying.
However, he said his most difficult was as National Security Minister.
"One of the most debilitating things was to wake up each morning to receive a call about how many Jamaicans lost their lives last night," said Phillips.
However, he said he was encouraged by Jamaica's prospects.
"One of the things that we don't do enough is to show the growth that we have made as a country," he said."
"I accept the award with much appreciation, but quite frankly, it is an award for the people of Jamaica."
He also had high praises for his team at the Finance Ministry.
"None of us accomplish anything meaningful just standing on our own," Phillips said.
