Public sector wage bill swells by $3b
The public sector wage bill has increased by $3 billion for the 2015/2016 fiscal year, bringing the total to $168.3 billion.
In March Parliament approved $165.2 billion for wages and salaries in 2015/2016.
That amount included $11.1 billion that was provided for in the contingency amount.
Seven point five billion dollars of this figure related to arrears and $3.6 billion was to meet the cost of new wage settlements.
The original Estimates of Expenditure contemplated a wage settlement of three per cent in Year 1.2 per cent in year two.
However, the public sector leaders rejected the offer.
The ultimate settlements, for which 97 per cent of public sector trade unions have agreed to, is for four per cent in year one and three per cent in year two of the Agreement.
