Contributory pension for hotel workers

Tourism and Entertainment Minister Dr Wykeham McNeill says the contributory pension scheme for the island's hotel workers will become operational by January 2017.

Addressing a staff awards function at the Hyatt Ziva and Zilara Rose Hall Resorts in Montego Bay, St James, on Tuesday, the minister announced that the start-up date for the scheme has already been approved by Cabinet.

He said a special committee has been established in the ministry to work out details of the pension scheme to ensure that if a worker moves from one company to another, the benefits are not lost. "If workers move from one property to another, they can move their pension with them and continue to build their pension," McNeill added.
