Two arrested for failure to pay taxes

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) recently carried out enforcement action in Clarendon with two persons being arrested and brought before the May Pen Resident Magistrate's Court for failing to pay outstanding property taxes totalling approximately $1.9 million. The tax authority's Special Enforcement Team supported by the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency arrested the Clarendon residents for failure to comply.

Arrested on warrants of disobedience for failure to pay property taxes were Winston Delano Willis $532,122.54 and Charles Apru Darby $1,375,325.55. They were subsequently granted bail.

The TAJ says it will continue to carry out enforcement activities to ensure the protection of revenue. Taxpayers are, therefore, encouraged to speak with the tax authority and make suitable arrangements, if they are faced with difficulties in honouring their tax obligations, particularly where a judgment had been handed down by the court.
