Tivoli Enquiry: Former assistant commissioner contradicts superintendent

Former Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Green has given evidence that appears to contradict the testimony of Superintendent Michael Phipps.

Last year, Phipps had testified that Green instructed police investigators sent to Tivoli Gardens after the May 2010 operations that they should not record anything unless they are absolutely sure.

But testifying by video link from the Ukraine today, Green told the David Simmons-chaired tribunal that he gave no such instructions.

"I certainly did not. I would not have given those instructions," he said as he was led through his evidence by head of the Independent Commission of Investigations Terrence Williams.

"It goes against everything I believe in, I am trained to do and the things I have tried to instil in the officers I served within the Jamaica Constabulary Force," he said.
