There's heightened security at the May Pen police station in Clarendon following a disturbance sparked by prisoners.

Head of the Clarendon Police Division, Senior Superintendent Fitz Bailey, could not provide details on the matter.

However, he said he had received reports about what he called "a situation".

The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre has received reports that some prisoners were attempting an escape.

That reportedly prompted a clash with cops.

Fire trucks from the nearby fire station were later called to the lock-up.

A large crowd also descended on the station.
