Elaine Osbourne, the councillor for the Manchioneal division in the Portland Parish Council has declared that the party is united for victory in Portland East.

"We have a little man running and talking about he is going to win the seat because we are not united," she told Comrades in Port Antonio Friday night.

"We have never even been united like before," he said.

Portland East has been a hot bed of internal political activities with comrades at daggers drawn over Lynvale Bloomfield as the party's standard bearer.

Andrea Moore had challenged Bloomfield for the right to represent the constituency and won.

But despite winning a delegates contest, Moore was overlooked by the PNP hierarchy.

Amid the turmoil, late last year, the PNP shifted a major regional meeting from Port Antonio to Annotto Bay in St Mary.

Two other persons - Dr Dennis Minott and Senator Norman Grant - had also expressed an interest in representing the seat.

Minott is running as an independent candidate.

In 2011, Bloomfield won the seat by 1,246 votes, improving on the margin of 795 recorded in 2007.

In 2002, Dr Donald Rhodd had won the traditionally strong PNP seat by 2,301 votes before experiencing a precipitous decline in his margin in the 2007 election.
