UPDATE: Less than 50 per cent voter turn out at noon in Edgewater
At midday only 66 of the 185 registered election day workers had cast their ballot at the Edgewater Community Centre in Portmore, St Catherine, with most of the voting taking place between 8 and 9.
When The Gleaner team returned at about 1:35 there was a lull in activities, with the polling division absent of voters.
Eaton French assistant returning officer explained that this was in stark contrast to the buzz of activity up to the first hour of opening.
Over the St Catherine South Division headquarters (Hundred Man Station), the story was the same with most of the election day workers also enjoying a break, while over at the Greater Portmore Junior Centre things were at a standstill.
Sergeant Calbert Morris who had voted earlier in the day, insisted that he opted to exercise his franchise “because I can” and urged other Jamaicans to follow his example.
