Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr Kevin Harvey, said the donation will assist the Ministry in responding better to the demands in the health sector.

The ability of the Ministry of Health to respond to the Zika virus has been boosted with the introduction of 19 fogging machines and 6,000 bottles of paracetamol.

The items were provided to the ministry by international charity group Food for the Poor Jamaica.

Speaking at a handing over ceremony recently, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr Kevin Harvey, said the donation will assist the Ministry in responding better to the demands in the health sector.

Harvey pointed out that the ministry not only has to contend with the Zika virus, but also dengue, chikungunya as well as the usual flu season.

He said the new fog machines will be used to support the health ministry’s vector control activities in communities.

Jamaica has been on an ongoing programme to reduce the impact of the Zika virus on the island.
