Several people have been injured in a stampede after gunshots rang out in Portia Simpson Miller Square, St Andrew South West at a People's National Party (PNP) mass meeting.

Immediately after the shot was fired, Simpson Miller, the incumbent MP took the microphone urging people to "stand your ground".

"No evil that rise up against us shall prosper," Simpson Miller said.

Police on the scene said one shot was fired and there was no reports of injuries from the shooting.
