Election Day activities have so far been incident free throughout the four divisions in South West St Elizabeth.

The divisions being contested by teacher Hugh Buchanan of the People’s National Party (PNP) and attorney-at-law Floyd Green for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).

All polling stations were opened on schedule. However, while voting was slow in the Black River and Brompton divisions, activities in Mountainside and Pedro Plain were marked by long lines.

Green told The Gleaner that things were going as planned, but the PNP standard-bearer Buchanan opted not to be interviewed.

However, PNPYO president Andre Blair is confident that Buchanan, the incumbent, would be returned as Member of Parliament.

"This is where I am from, so I am here to vote and to assist the machinery on the ground," Blair told The Gleaner. "It has always been a marginal seat, but we will take it, once again," he added.
