There is heightened interest this morning ahead of a press conference called by the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) for 11 o'clock to update the country on the Election results.

Yesterday, rumours circulated about the results prompting Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and the Jamaica Labour Party to issue statements appealing for calm.

The EOJ says at the press conference this morning, there will be an update on the official ballot count and results of the 2016 general election held last week Thursday.

At the end of Saturday, the official count was completed in 40 of 63 constituencies and there was only one change

The only seat change was recorded in St Mary South Eastern where the PNP's Dr Winston Green regained the seat with a nine-vote majority over the JLP's Dr Norman Dunn.

According to the Commission, the official seat count is now:  the JLP - 32; and the People's National Party (PNP) - 31.

The JLP has said it will file for a magisterial ballot count for the St Mary seat.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister-designate, Andrew Holness has asked the director of elections to complete the recounting process quickly so he can be sworn in.
