The Director of Elections, Orrette Fisher, told journalists this morning that the final recount of ballots could be completed today.

There is no clear indication when Prime Minister-designate Andrew Holness could be sworn in.

The Director of Elections, Orrette Fisher, told journalists this morning that the final recount could be completed today.

He said the official results could be presented to the Governor General by Wednesday.

However, he notes that this could be delayed if any candidate challenges the results in the courts.

In a statement yesterday, the Jamaica Labour Party's (JLP) said Holness was already moving to take charge of the government of Jamaica from the People's National Party.

There were also reports that Holness was moving to have the swearing-in ceremony tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the JLP has indicated that it will take steps to have a magisterial count for St Mary South East which it lost to the PNP on Saturdays' recount.

Meanwhile, the Director of Elections has sought to explain why the recount process appeared slow.
