Several houses in the newly constructed Port Bello Housing Scheme, near Cornwall Courts, were flooded and some people had to vacate their homes.

The St James parish council says last weekend's flooding in the parish has resulted in approximately $20 million in damage.

Chairman of the council and Mayor of Montego Bay, Glendon Harris disclosed the cost this morning.

He says roads accounted for most of the damage.

Harris says the council will be seeking help from the local government ministry to cover the cost as it is unable to find all the money to carryout all the repairs at this time.

Meanwhile, Harris is appealing to St James residents not to dump their garbage in the gullies as that contributed to some streets being flooded.
