Ruel Reid's pending Cabinet appointment triggers emergency Jamaica College meeting
The board of Jamaica College (JC) was called to an emergency meeting at 10 o’clock this morning following news that principal Ruel Reid is to become education minister.
Reid has been principal at JC since 2006 and he has been credited with placing the school on a new and positive path since his appointment.
Reid will take his seat in the Cabinet through the Senate.
Reid had been an opposition senator up to February 2015, when he resigned to make way for the return of Arthur Williams or Dr Christopher Tufton following a Constitutional Court ruling.
The court had ruled that then opposition leader Andrew Holness had acted unconstitutionally when he removed Tufton and Williams from the Senate then appointed Reid as one of the replacements.
Reid was also an advisor to the Minister of Education under the Bruce Golding-led administration.
