St James Southern magisterial recount to begin today
The magisterial recount of ballots cast in the St James Southern constituency during the February 25 general elections is set to begin in the Cambridge Resident Magistrate’s Court today.
The application for a recount was filed by the Jamaica Labour Party.
That seat was contested by the JLP’s Homer Davis and the People’s National Party’s Derrick Kellier.
The preliminary count of votes had Kellier winning by 72 votes and that margin was confirmed in the final count.
However, attorney Charles Sinclair, who is representing Davis, says he believes some ballots were rejected by the returning officer, which should not have been.
If the results of the final count are overturned it would move the JLP’s seat tally to 33 and reduce the PNP’s to 30.
