Men charged with murder of JUTC bus driver remanded

The two men charged with the December murder of a Jamaica Urban Transit Corporation (JUTC) bus driver, Albert Barnes, have been remanded in custody.

Garfield Walters and George Ballentine of Bedward Gardens in St Andrew, are to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on April 5, when bail applications on their behalf are to be made.

When the two appeared in court yesterday, their attorneys applied for full disclosure of all case documents.

Attorney-at-law Hensley Williams who is representing Walters, also asked the court for a copy of a tape which reportedly shows Barnes' murder.

Ballentine is being represented by Denise Walker.

Barnes was driving a JUTC bus in August Town on December 29 last year, when two men boarded the bus.

According to reports, one of the men brandished a gun and shot Barnes within 13 seconds of them boarding the bus.
