Minister of Health Dr Christopher Tufton will be participating in the second 'Operation: Mosquito Search and Destroy' clean-up campaign which will be heading to St Ann this weekend.

As part of the Ministry of Health's Zika virus preparedness and response activities, the clean-up initiative started in St Catherine on February 22 and will be executed in all 14 parishes over time.

"The initiative is being done to mobilise and motivate residents to take responsibility by searching for and destroying mosquito-breeding sites in and around their homes. Increased fogging in areas with high mosquito breeding also forms part of the ministry's overall heightened vector-control activities," Tufton said.

Today, the health team, along with several stakeholders, will be targeting communities in the Ocho Rios town centre, as well as Fauklands, Buckfield and Parry Town to search for and destroy mosquito-breeding sites in order to decrease the Aedes aegypti population and reduce the possible spread of the Zika virus, dengue and chikungunya.

The team will meet at the Ocean Village Shopping Centre, Ocho Rios, at 9 a.m. for a brief launch and then move to the respective locations.
