Twenty-seven women who were last month arrested and charged for loitering pleaded guilty when they appeared in the Half-Way Tree Petty Sessions Court.

The police say they were arrested as part of the continued efforts to improve public order in Half-Way Tree.

The women were fined $2,000 or three months in jail.

They were also ordered to stay away from the area for the next three months.

Operations aimed at improving safety and security in public spaces continue in the St Andrew Central Division.

Meanwhile, On Friday, 13 men were arrested and charged under the Offensive Weapons (Prohibition) Act.

This follows the issuing of a warning by the Police of a renewed focus on this area.

The renewed focus comes against the background of a high number of these weapons featuring in murders and cases involving serious injury.
