Pedestrian deaths on the decline; road fatalities up overall
The number of pedestrians killed on the nation’s roadways so far this year is on the decline.
Data from the National Road Safety Council (NRSC) show that 13 pedestrians have died in motor vehicle crashes since January 1.
Nineteen pedestrians died on the roadways over the corresponding period last year and 20 for the similar period in 2014.
Despite this, the NRSC data show that overall road fatalities are up just over 10 per cent.
According to the data, 86 persons have died in 74 motor vehicle crashes so far this year compared to 78 for the corresponding period last year.
