High Commission,T&T to meet over reports of recent ill-treatment of Jamaicans
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade says it notes, with concern, the reports about the alleged ill-treatment of Jamaicans who were recently denied entry to Trinidad and Tobago.
The Ministry says it has not received any formal complaint about the incident.
However, it says Jamaica’s High Commission in Trinidad has brought the media reports to the attention of the Trinidad and Tobago Immigration Department.
The ministry says officials from the High Commission will meet with Trinidad’s Ministry of National Security and Caribbean Airlines in relation to the reports.
It says the High Commission expects to be provided with a report once the necessary investigations have been completed, and will advise the ministry accordingly.
Meanwhile, the foreign affairs ministry is reminding Jamaicans to make formal reports of incidents where they have been denied entry, detained or mistreated at the ports of entry.
