Four arrested for stealing fibre optic cables

Four men were arrested by the police early this morning for stealing fibre optic cables in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

Reports from the police's Corporate Communication Unit (CCU) are that about 4:30 a.m., a team from the Spanish Town Police were on patrol when men were seen removing fibre optic cables from a telecommunications company site on Century Road. The men reportedly ran and escaped in a car upon seeing the police.

The vehicle was followed by the police and intercepted on the Green Acres main road where it was searched and found to contain large quantities of fibre optic cables. The men were subsequently arrested.

Their identities are being withheld pending further investigations.

The police are appealing to persons to desist from engaging in such activities and are reminding citizens to contact the Police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station if anyone is seen engaged in such illegal activities.
