Health ministry concerned about Portmore, another Zika case recorded
Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton says his ministry is very concerned about the Portmore community in St Catherine which has recorded it's fifth case of the Zika virus.
The latest case in Portmore was identified after the health ministry sent some three hundred samples to be tested for Zika last week.
It now brings the overall number of confirmed Zika cases in Jamaica to six.
Tufton says the drive to eradicate mosquito breeding sites continues, particularly in Portmore.
With one confirmed case of the Zika virus, St Thomas is the only other parish that has recorded a positive Zika case.
The health ministry says it has embarked on an intense vector control programme in communities which have recorded cases of the virus.
