235 debit and credit cards seized by Customs
The Jamaica Customs Agency intercepted and seized 235 debit and credit cards which were used to convey illicitly acquired cash into Jamaica during the 2015/16 fiscal year.
This was disclosed by Minister of National Security, Robert Montague.
Montague has commended customs on the seizures and urged the agency to remain vigilant.
He encouraged the agency to keep up-to-date on the ingenious methods traffickers use to smuggle items into the country.
Montague emphasised that it was imperative that the Jamaican authorities keep abreast of global trends in order to strengthen border security and reduce the risk and likelihood of contraband slipping into the island.
The national security minister said this would help to significantly disrupt the narcotics trade, lottery scamming and other illicit activities.
He was speaking during a meeting with the management and staff at custom’s Newport East offices in Kingston on Tuesday.
