Chairman of the People’s National Party's Patriots’ Javette Nixon says Finance Minister Audley Shaw must come clean on the matter and immediately abandon his game of political gimmickry.

Chairman of the People’s National Party's (PNP) Patriots’ Javette Nixon says Finance Minister Audley Shaw was disingenuous and irresponsible when he announced that the funds which were being eyed by the government for the tax plan are now unavailable.

Under the plan, income tax will be removed for PAYE contributors earning $1.5 million or less, by April 1.

Shaw and the Jamaica Labour Party had announced that the move would be funded through the gas tax.

However, the Finance Minister is contending that money which should have been set aside from the tax has been accounted for in the consolidated fund.

However, Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Dr Peter Phillips says the then PNP government used the money for an oil hedge programme.

The programme was also discussed in Gordon House in September last year when Dr Phillips, who was Finance Minister at the time, responded to several questions on the matter which were posed by Shaw.

According to Nixon, Shaw must come clean on the matter and immediately abandon his game of political gimmickry.
