Tax plan to be discussed tomorrow at Cabinet retreat
The government’s tax break proposal is one of several major items scheduled to be discussed tomorrow, when the cabinet concludes its three day retreat.
Information Minister, Senator Ruel Reid says a briefing will be held following the retreat to update persons on the outcome of the discussions.
The government had promised to implement the tax plan by April 1.
However, last week, the information minister hinted that the plan may be delayed until after the budget is passed in May.
On Tuesday, Finance Minister Audley Shaw announced that the funds which the Jamaica Labour Party had been eyeing to implement the measure had been accounted for.
Despite this, Shaw insisted that the government is committed to the plan and funds will be found to ensure its implementation.
According to him, even if the measure is not implemented on April 1 as promised, it will be retroactive to this date.
