TAJ addressing online property tax system glitch
Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) says taxpayers will not be able to pay their property taxes online today because of an error with the system.
Taxpayers are usually able to view their current property tax liability which is usually posted online on April 1 of each year, and then proceed to make the payment.
The TAJ says its service provider is aware of the situation and has assured that the information will be available online no later than April 2.
In the meantime, the TAJ is reminding property owners that although the taxes for the 2016-2017 fiscal year is due April 1, they have until the end of this month to pay and avoid a 10 per cent penalty.
The TAJ also said property taxes remain the same as last year as there has been no increase in the rates.
Property owners may pay their taxes in half-yearly installments on April 1 and October 1 or in quarterly installments on April 1, July 1, October 1, and January 1.
Persons may contact the TAJ Customer Care Centre at 1-888-Tax-Help (1-888-829-4357) toll-free for further information or assistance.
