Businesswoman pleads guilty to copyright breaches

A Kingston businesswoman convicted on charges of breaches of the Trademark Copyright Act is to be sentenced on Wednesday, April 30.

The police say 47-year-old Lan Yan, a Chinese woman of an Orange Street, Kingston address pleaded guilty when she appeared in the Corporate Area Criminal Court today. 

She was arrested on March 17 last year following the seizure of millions of dollars worth of counterfeit footwear during a police operation at her business place.

The operation was part of a series of activities in the Caribbean, South America and North America to clamp down on counterfeiting.

The police say during the operation, they seized more than 30,000 pairs counterfeit Nike, Polo, Adidas, Puma, Vanz, Levi’s, Converse and Clarks shoes.
