Second fire in three days in Portland Cottage, two more houses destroyed
Two more families from Portland Cottage in Clarendon have been left homeless after fire burnt down their houses sometime yesterday morning.
It is reported that a neighbour saw fire coming from a two bedroom board house where a mother and her eight children lived.
Stacyann Murray said she had just left the children next door, and was on her way to May Pen, when she got the call that her house was on fire.
It quickly spread to the other house and within minutes both dwellings were flattened.
The man who is said to occupy the other house was not at home.
The fire brigade was only able to conduct cooling down operations.
This is the second fire in three days in Portland Cottage.
In the first incident, which occurred early Sunday morning, two families were left homeless after their houses and everything they owned was consumed by the fire.
Councillor for the Rocky Point division Winston Maragh says he has been proactive in seeking assistance for those affected.
He says he has managed to secure some items for the previous fire victims, but will need more assistance to help the others.
