INDECOM launch probe into Westmoreland shooting, three men killed
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the fatal shooting of three men allegedly involved in a robbery in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, this morning.
The men, who have not been identified, were reportedly shot by police about 3:10 this morning on Great Georges Street.
The Commission says the report it has received from the police indicate that a security company initially responded to an incident after an alarm went off at a supermarket on Great Georges Street.
Upon arrival at the supermarket, the security personnel observed that there was a break-in which prompted them to call the police.
Four cops responded to the incident.
The police say when they arrived on the scene they were greeted with gun fire which they returned.
All three men were shot and injured.
They were subsequently taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Public Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
The police have reported that one firearm was recovered.
INDECOM says a team of investigators and forensic examiners responded to the scene at approximately 6:20 this morning and were still there gathering information up to mid-morning.
