Marcus Garvey Drive to be made into one-way Tuesday
Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston is to be turned into a one-way corridor during certain hours on Tuesday.
The National Works Agency (NWA) says the move is part of its efforts to manage traffic flow as it carries out work along the corridor.
According to the NWA, between 6 o'clock and 9 o’clock in the mornings, Marcus Garvey Drive will be turned into a one-way only allowing traffic heading from Three Miles and the Portmore Toll Road towards downtown Kingston.
The Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says during those hours, motorists travelling from downtown Kingston towards Three Miles, will be diverted along Industrial Terrace, then on to Spanish Town Road.
Shaw says the changes will also impact motorists wishing to access and leave the various business establishments along Marcus Garvey Drive, who will also have to use Industrial Terrace and Spanish Town Road.
Marcus Garvey Drive is now undergoing a US$20 million expansion and upgrade.
Shaw is reminding road users who regularly use Marcus Garvey Drive to plan their travels over the next several months, as the corridor will continue to be an active work zone and traffic delays are likely.
He says the NWA will continue to assess the traffic situation along the corridor and modifications will be made where necessary.
