Assistant commissioner of Police, Derrick Knight, says the police are now probing the murder of a man in Braeton in St Catherine.

The incident occurred at about 7:25 Saturday night on the Braeton Pathway main road in the parish.

According to the Corporate Communications Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, 58-year-old James Jackson, from a Greater Portmore address, was on the thoroughfare when he was shot by unknown assailants.

He was reportedly on his way home from church.

Jackson, who was shot in his neck, was pronounced dead at hospital.

ACP Knight, who is Commander for Area 1, says the police received reports that Jackson got a phone call instructing him to go to another community in Portmore and was shot and killed on the way.

He says the police are not sure if the phone call had anything to do with his death.
