A St Catherine woman who pleaded guilty to stealing electricity was fined $250,000 when she appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court yesterday.

34-year-old labourer, Joan Bailey, from Guys Hill in the parish will have to pay the fine or face 30 days imprisonment.

The court heard that on March 19, Jamaica Public Service representatives and police personnel went to Bailey's  home.

During the visit, it was observed that she was illegally connected to the JPS power supply.

However, when the police accosted Bailey she reportedly tricked them into believing that she was just visiting the dwelling.

The police left messages for the owner to visit the Guys Hill police station.

When there was no response, the police revisited the premises and arrested others including Bailey's son.

Bailey was subsequently arrested and charged.
