Deon Hemmings gives back

Former Olympian Deon Hemmings-McCatty, in partnership with the Central Junior Schools Classics Organising Committee, has launched a junior's track meet and has used the opportunity to give back to aspiring athletes who are doing well.

The Central Junior Schools Classic Track and Field Meet, which is being held today at the Kirkvine Sports Club, is geared at primary-aged children from the region.

This year, the format for the meet will include timed finals, a point system with trophies being given to the top school, top male and female, and the champion boy and girl in each class.

"We will also be giving prize money to the top three placed schools. We will be making a monetary contribution towards the team's programme, Puma has provided sneakers and spikes, while Corner Top Distributor will be providing water for the teams at Primary Champs," expressed Hemmings-McCatty

The committee decided to award the Black River Primary with sports gear in the form of sneakers and spikes after observing that the school had been excelling in both academics and athletics.
