The Child Development Agency (CDA) says it is currently investigating reports of the sexual abuse of an eight-year-old girl in Highgate, St Mary.

Media reports are that the child was sexually assaulted by a mechanic who is romantically involved with her mother.

The child was reportedly also treated at hospital following the assault and has since been released.

However, there is no confirmation that her abuser has been arrested.

Head of the CDA Rosalee Gage-Grey says her office is currently investigating the matter which was reported to them last week.

She says the CDA has already made contact with the eight-year-old girl.

Gage-Grey says the CDA is in contact with the Highgate police, but are still unable to declare whether the child's abuser has been arrested.

According to media reports the incident occurred some two weeks ago when the man visited the child’s house.

The accused reportedly fled when the police sought him for questioning.

However, according to reports he has since been operating normally in the Highgate area.
