Some attorneys failing to renew practising certificates, Legal Council to publish names
The General Legal Council says it will be publishing the names of the lawyers who failed to renew their practising certificates.
The council is the statutory body that regulates the legal profession in Jamaica.
In a newspaper advertisement yesterday it said a number of attorneys-at-law failed to renew their practising certificates for the year.
The council said it is finalising the list of delinquents and will publish it on its website and in all the courts in Jamaica.
It is urging them to get regularise their status before the publication date which it has not revealed.
Lawyers who did not renew their practising certificates have no right of audience before a court.
In addition, it is a criminal offence for any person to act as an attorney while they are not duly qualified.
