Optimism among Jamaican firms rose at the start of 2016 to the highest level in the 15-year history of the Business and Consumer Confidence Survey conducted by Pollster Don Anderson.

Business confidence surged 17.6 per cent over the previous quarter.

The Business Confidence Index was 144.6 in the first quarter 2016 survey up from 123.0 in the fourth quarter and 131.9 in the corresponding quarter for last year.

Anderson says the increase in the confidence can be attributed to expectations associated with the aftermath of the February 25 General Election.
