Man who reportedly shot and killed St Ann cop back in police custody
The licenced firearm holder who reportedly shot and killed a police constable in St Ann two weeks ago is back in police custody.
Assistant Commissioner Ealan Powell confirmed this morning that the man was taken into custody based on additional investigations conducted by the police.
However, Powell, who heads the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Criminal Investigations Branch, could not say whether the licenced firearm holder would be charged with any criminal offence.
He says the investigations are continuing and will include a question and answer session with the man’s attorney.
ACP Powell, however, indicated that the police have conducted some investigations and are satisfied that he should be in custody.
According to police reports, Constable Shane Francis was shot and killed during an altercation with the licenced firearm holder as they left a party in Ocho Rios, St Ann two weeks ago.
The licenced firearm holder reportedly turned himself in to the Ocho Rios Police Station shortly after the incident and was held for several days before he was released.
